At 63, Jodie Foster is a respected actress, Hollywood icon, and an LGBT pioneer. Yet, it seems the presidential assassins of today have lost their previous penchant for trying to win her over. Gone are the days when misguided hopefuls attempted to impress the star with their nefarious deeds.
In the 1980s, presidential assassins had more unique motives. They weren’t bogged down in politics but instead aimed for grand gestures, like John Hinckley Jr.'s infamous attempt to impress Foster by shooting at President Reagan. His logic, while flawed, was at least entertainingly ambitious.
However, today’s assassins seem to lack this whimsical inspiration. They fail to even acknowledge Foster’s stellar career, which includes roles in 'Silence of the Lambs' and 'True Detective.' Instead, they are driven by mundane political grievances, which might explain their consistent failures.
Perhaps if they took a moment to appreciate Foster’s filmography, from 'Taxi Driver' to 'Contact,' they might find the proper motivation and, who knows, maybe even succeed in their misguided missions. After all, with the right inspiration, anything is possible!
