Bliss Comedy - a night of uplifting laughter

Join us for a hilarious evening of comedy at Liberty Bell Coffee, 5 Hamilton Street, Birkenhead, CH41 6DL.  This event promises to be a night filled with joy, humour, and good vibes.

Bliss Comedy is hosted by Mary Cross, comedian, radio presenter and pun queen who is looking to create a wonderfully diverse and safe space for everyone to enjoy a night of comedy.

We aim to provide a platform for the rising stars of the UK comedy scene alongside giving opportunities for newer comics to perform.  All of our previous events have sold out and we have a regular and devoted fan base who come back time and again.

This month we have we have a brilliantly varied line-up with something for everyone!

Joining us this month are:

Headliner: Charlotte Cropper

Charlotte Cropper's anecdotal and conversational style laced with wit and whimsy makes her a "viscerally relatable" (The Meteor) new voice on the UK comedy scene.

She regularly performs Opener, Middle and MC spots across the North-West, most notably MC-ing the prestigious club XS Malarkey in October 2024. Charlotte is the creator and host of two-time Chortle award-winning CroppaChoppa’s Slumber Party, the cult sleepover-themed show described as "Arguably the most fun night of comedy in Manchester" (Manchester Wire).

“Rising star” (A Lovely Time).

"I am a super big fan" (Toby Hadoke, XS Malarkey).

“A bouncy and friendly stage presence that makes you feel like her bestie” (Blizzard Comedy).

“Thoroughly engaging” (Chortle)

Shugufta Choudhry

BBC New Comedy Awards Finalist, Shugufta is a nerdy tech student who loves Star Wars. Expect unexpected laughs and clever surprises that’ll keep you guessing!

Jay Gorman

Jay is a self-deprecating, observational and punny comedian that has been progressing within the North West comedy scene. He has featured on many shows at Hot Water Comedy Club, and is a frequent Roast Battler. Come along and get to Gnome more about him.

Beth Moore

Beth Moore is a feminist comic. “Keep an eye on them. They’ve got passion and they’ve got talent and they’ll make a name for themselves one day soon.” - Nick Helm.

Her comedy predominantly focuses on film, media, and culture, but to this she bring the ferocity and energy of a punk front woman, playfully persuading audiences round to her way of digesting the world around her.

Beth has a regular slot at Chortle Award Winning, cult, comedy show CroppaChoppa’s Slumber Party, which has been described as “Arguably, the most fun night of comedy in Manchester.” (Manchester Wire). Beth has also co-created Fight Club, a monthly meet up for female and non-binary comedians to talk about the industry and celebrate one another achievements, which has been described as “quietly leading a revolution in Manchester’s comedy scene” (Manchester Wire).

Darren Hawes

Darren delivers observational comedy making light of the bizarre and strange situations life has thrown his way. Not afraid to laugh at himself, his humour is very much based on idea that no matter the situation there is always a laugh to be found.

MC Mary Cross

After breaking on to the comedy scene in 2022, founder of Bliss Comedy, Mary Cross, aka the Punning Linguist, has quickly become a firm favourite on the circuit with her own brand of high-energy comedy which leaves audiences on a euphoric high.

Shortlisted for the Funny Women Awards in 2023 and 2025, a sellout show in the Women in Comedy Festival and Lancaster Comedy Festival and UK Pun Championship Semi-Finalist in the Leicester Comedy Festival in 2024, 2025 and 2026, Mary's combination of relatable stories, original songs and linguistic acrobats is a sure-fire winner.

“Mary Cross is confident, charming, and charismatic. One of those people who has a real infectious sense of humour, a warm wit that really makes you all feel in on the jokes, not just that they’re being told to you”

“Mary is just unambiguously funny, and a great watch for really anyone, but especially the kind of folk who come to our shows. She's absolutely wonderful.”

Honestly this was a fantastic night of fun, frivolity, filth but sadly no fornication. The acts were fantastic, for some it was only their 3-4th time doing standup but they did an amazing job. Hats off to them all as performing in such an intimate venue (a crowd of 40), standing literally 2ft from your audience is probably more nerve wracking than performing to hi Fred’s with a bright light shining in your face. The acts were courageous, funny, diverse and happy to wear their heart on their sleeve. Audience participation is a must to 1) enjoy the gig & 2) give the acts the recognition they deserve m. Well done to all involved & I can’t wait to come to the next 1. PS you could definitely up your prices as 3hrs of top notch comedy was definitely worth more than £8. I donated another tenner as it was easily worth the money. Keep up the good work guys. You were AWESOME 🙌
