*Hatsuwarai (初笑い) translates to the "first laugh of the year" in Japan, representing a traditional New Year custom aimed at bringing good luck and fortune. It signifies starting the year with joy, often through comedy performances, entertainment, or lighthearted activities to ensure happiness in the coming months.

We are very excited to Kick off January 2026 with a bonus Saturday comedy show in line with the Japanese tradition of *Hatsuwarai with a fantastic fun packed lineup of live comedy followed by singalong live music with optional club night too for post show dodgy dancing and drinks plus late bar in the friendly atmosphere of The Amersham Arms conveniently located opposite New Cross station.  We bring you fantastic line up of comedy talent including Japanese Comedy Star Yuriko Kotani -BBC New Comedy Award Winner As seen on Russell Howard's Stand Up Central, Pls Like (BBC3) and Paul Hollywood Eats Japan (Channel 4) , Sang Don Park- South Korean Comedy Star  , Lewisham's finest musical loving comedian Victoria Howden , Kuan-wen Huang- As seen on Comedy Central Live and described as a 'Taiwanese force of nature' (Chortle.co.uk)  , Suzie Preece- Co Host of Ghost Huns Podcast , Glaswegian gagsmith Currer Ball providing the lols all hosted by your cheeky compere Sion James Plus Post show live music & singalong from much adored Tony Ukulele Plus Optional Post Club Night & DJ with Bar til 3am

Sang Don Park 
Sang Don Park is a South Korean, musical comedian who is now based in London. He has performed and headlined in Seoul, Melbourne, Sydney, and London as well. He discusses cultural and observational experiences that he went through whilst living in different cities abroad.

Victoria Howden

Kuan-wen Huang
Kuan-wen Huang is an emerging comedian from Taiwan, described as a 'Taiwanese force of nature' (Chortle.co.uk), with major breakthroughs on the UK circuit in the last two years. Performed at Edfringe , Brighton Fringe and was nominated for Nominated for Sean Lock Award for Channel 4, 2023 plus nominated for Leicester Comedy Festival Best Show. As seen on Comedy Central Live.
