TweetVenue & Vibes
Picture this: a Saturday evening down Newton Aycliffe Sports Club. The bar’s buzzing, the crowd’s warm (we’re all Northerners, after all), there’s a good hum of chatter and anticipation. The stage lights are low—not too fancy, just right for a proper night of stand-up. The bloke on the mic’s one of our own, the team behind it all (Gobful) have pulled an excellent line‐up. You walk in, you know you’re in for a proper laugh.

MC: Aidan Ryans
Aidan opens the night. He’s the host with the most (or at least the most banter). He’ll warm you up, get the crowd going, toss a bit of local colour in—“where you from, mate?”, “who’s having a pint if diesel?”—that kind of thing. He knows how to keep things moving so you’re not sat waiting for ages. According to his IG bio: “Actually quite funny” — modest, but fair. Expect him to riff off the crowd, tease you gently, and set the scene for the headliners.

Headline Acts
Gavin Webster comes on strong. He’s a Tyne-side legend (born in Blaydon-on-Tyne) with decades in the game. One reviewer said of his show:
> “He likes shouting and swearing, in fact he loves it. He quips how can you like one without the other.”
Another said his piece:
“The double-negative is the point … funny, if not wholly coherent reflection on the free-speech/comedy debate.”
So with Gavin, expect sharp Northern wit, a bit of in-your-face humour, and plenty of “you know how it is up North” stuff. He’ll go for big laughs, maybe push a boundary or two—but all with familiar territory so you’re comfortable.
Chris McGlade wraps it up. From Redcar, with that Teesside edge, and a story behind him. One write-up described:
> “I’ve never let go of what I do and what I love – and I do absolutely love it.”
And about his show:
“He believes laughter is important; it is like a valve that lets out the pressure to stop it all building up inside.”
Chris brings more than just jokes—he brings honesty, working‐class stories, and a bit of heart alongside the laughs. So after Gavin fires the crowd up, Chris will maybe take you a different place: still funny, but with depth.

What to Expect
Arrive, find a seat (the club’s welcoming, you’ll feel right at home)
MC gets things rolling, maybe 15-20 mins of warm-up
Gavin Webster hits hard, big jokes, lots of energy
Short interval (grab another drink)
Chris McGlade finishes strong: stand-up with a story, laughs and maybe a moment of “yeah, we’ve been there”
The whole thing run by Gobful—professional, but still local, still friendly.

Why It’s Worth It
Because it’s local. Big names, but not so far you feel removed. You’re with people who speak your language, who know Northern life. You’ll laugh at the familiar, you’ll think just a bit, and you’ll come away saying “that was a good night out
