Stand Up Storytelling Workshop LONDON - For stand-ups (and anyone else!) who want to develop their storytelling

This is the workshop for you if you're a stand-up comedian wanting to sharpen your storytelling, or if you're a speaker or presenter looking to add killer storytelling skills to your speaking. 

Learn how to apply strategic embellishment, act-outs, present tense narration, meta comedy and a clear comic structure to create consistent laughter throughout a story. 

We will also explore your distinct comedic persona. We'll work with status and archetypes to see how your own persona informs your storytelling. You could also be the “straight person” navigating the absurdities of the situation, or alternatively you could be "the idiot in the story"! 

You're very welcome to bring along a story you currently tell (in stand-up or elsewhere, for example in a presentation or socially) to devlop it in the session. You will also work on a brand new story, alongside doing quick-fire exercises to develop comical stories on the spot. 

This workshop is highly practical with lots of guaranteed time on the microphone at the front of the class. If that sounds daunting, don't worry! My sessions are famously friendly and supportive, whilst also imparting lots of practical tips and insights. You will leave a better storyteller with technqiues and tips to sharpen your future storytelling. You will also take away your enhanced stories we have worked on in the session.

ABOUT CHRIS HEAD

Chris says: "I am a comedy coach, live comedy director and author of three books, “The Complete Comedy Script Toolkit”, "Creating Comedy Narratives for Stage and Screen" and "A Director's Guide to the Art of Stand-up".

I teach stand-up and comedy scriptwriting at the British Library, BBC Writers, Channel 4 and Bath Spa University, as well as online courses with writers and performers from all over the world. I also coach and mentor writers with BBC Comedy Commissioner and producer Lucy Lumsden.

Students I have taught have had a BBC sitcom (Daddy Issues) a Channel 5 sitcom (Borderline) and a BAFTA winning comedy short (Quiet Life), sell out stand-up shows at the Edinburgh Fringe (I Can Make You Italian in 55 Minutes), at Soho Theatre (Stand Up with Janine Harouni) and comedy plays at Soho Theatre (You Only Live Twice – which I also directed).

In the corporate world, I have taught stand-up skills at Allen & Overy, ITV, Channel 4, Google, Warner Brothers, Bank Paribas, UBS, MUFG, Digitas, The Mill, George P. Johnson, McCann, 180 Kingsday (Amsterdam), 101, Lida, MRM Meteorite and BBH. And I have taught comedy writing to creatives at The & Partnership, House 337 and BBC Creative.

I have also helped speakers punch up, structure and deliver full-length talks, including popular mathematics author Matt Parker’s ‘Humble Pi’ and ‘Get Triggy With it” shows, that tied in with the best-selling book of the same name, and Caroline Goyder’s TEDx talk (12 million views and counting)."
